HARGEISA, Somaliland- A team of international donors have spent a three day visit to Somaliland aimed at evaluating developments taking place in Somaliland and prioritizing development agendas invested by the international NGOs.
The meetings which took place behind closed doors had the attendance of the President o the Republic Dahir Rayaale Kahin along with senior Somaliland officials.
Mr. Marck Bowden who is the UNDP country director for Somaliland and Somalia told SSI after meeting with the president that it was a privilege for all the international delegates who attended the Somaliland development evaluation program to sit and discuss with President Rayaale on all the concerned issues.
According to Bowden the delegates wished to implement the outcomes of the consultations up to the highest level with the leadership of the Somaliland government.
Mr. Said Adani Moge, press secretary of the president mentioned told SSI that the President Rayaale thanked the delegations from all the international donors who he had received warmly at his office.
According to Moge president Rayaale briefed the delegates on the current drought in Somaliland that has affected not only lives but also livestock and appealed for support to bring relief to those affected.
On the other hand the minister of Finance, Ambassador, Awil Ali Duale briefed the gathering on Somaliland’s five year strategic plan explaining on the current budget as well as the work so far done by the ministry towards raising awareness regarding taxes.
The minister also told media that the World Bank’s intentions to invest fifty million USD in Somaliland for the next five years.
“we are also planning to send staff from the ministry of finance to other African countries to enhance their knowledge in regards to tax collection”, said the minister.
Minister Ali Duale also mentioned in this project is not only supported by the world Bank but also the Arab League as well as the US government. |
