By Moha Dahir Farah jire
BURAO, Somaliland- Somaliland president Dahir Rayale Kahin is continuing his tour across the nation in the build up the nation’s general election visiting areas sometimes for the first time since becoming president as well as traditional support bases of the oppstion parties.

The president who recently finished his tour of the Sahil region continued his trip to the city of Burao, the second capital city of Somaliland, where the Somaliland republic was declared in 1991. This is the first visit by President Rayaale following his election as president of he republic.

President Rayaale’s tour comes following the president’s promise to go to all the regions of Somaliland and meet with the people as well as evaluate the various development projects being conduced in the nation.

The visit of the president came as a surprise to some observers as Burao is traditionally an opposition stronghold and hostile to the incumbent. But remarkably the president was welcomed by the population of the city who came in thousands lining up on the streets of the city greeting him on his arrival.

Upon his arrival the president held meetings with the local administration to evaluate the work being done by government agencies. The president also warned some of the city officials on the need to implement their work properly and thanked the people of the region for the warm hospitality accorded to him.

He also encouraged the population to work towards strengthening peace and stability in somaliland, so it can also influence a stable Africa. On the sidelines of his visit the president met with the nomadic population in region to hear about the concerns he also encouraged them that the government would look into the problems they are facing and look for measures to alleviate the problems.
