15 people killed in a clash with cattle rustlers in Northern Kenya

NAIROBI, Kenya - Fifteen people were killed in northern Kenya during the weekend when cattle-rustling raids erupted into gunfights between rival clans near the Somali border, police said on Tuesday.
Nine were killed on Saturday and six on Sunday in clashes between feuding Garre and Murulle clans.
"Many were shot dead by raiders who attacked remote villages to steal cattle. Some of the dead were trying to keep away the raiders who managed to escape with herds of cattle," a local police commander said. Read More

French Commandos stormed pirated Yacht and freed hostages in Somalia

NAIROBI, Kenya - French commandos stormed a luxury yacht on Tuesday to rescue two French tourists who were being held for ransom by heavily armed Somali pirates, President Nicolas Sarkozy said.
One pirate was killed and six others taken prisoner in the pre-dawn assault by some 30 troops. The freed hostages and the captured pirates were put on a French navy ship sailing towards Djibouti, where France has a military base. Read More |

TUNIS, Tunisia- A decline in elementary school enrolments this year is a visible indicator of Tunisia's ageing population and falling birth rate. Although student-teacher ratios are improving, current pension schemes and incentives to have children are coming under scrutiny.
New enrolment in Tunisia's elementary schools is down nearly 45,000 students from last year, according to recent data from the Ministry of Education and Training.
